The Kotlin Android check Google Play Services availability development tutorial describes how to check if google play services are installed on your device.
The first thing we did was install the com.google.android.gms:play-services-auth in the build.gradle file. This gives us access to the Google availability APIs which provides the connection status.
The Google availability APIs also provide an error dialog which prompts the user to install Google Play Services.
The checkPreConditions() function will also be used by the following tutorials for implementing the other requirements for Google API access.
